Fate of the Petrovs The Petrovs, having been given political asylum, were eventually settled in suburban Melbourne under the names Sven and Maria Allyson, and given a pension. Vladimir died in 1991 and Evdokia in 2002.

The Case concerned leaks of information from the Australian Department of External Affairs to the Soviet Union. Part-time ASIO agent, doctor, violinist and Polish emigré Michael Bialoguskiwas an eccentric yet key player in Petrov’s defection. Bialoguski met Petrov at the Russian Social Club in Sydney and the two became friends.
